I Have Come That They May Have Life - John 10:10 (NKJV)

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 (NKJV)

Jesus tells us what the devil is trying to do to us. He steals, kills, and destroys. His tool is deception, and he sends symptoms of disease.

Jesus Himself told us that Satan was the source of illness in Luke 13: 16. He said that Satan had bound the woman who was bent over with an extreme back curvature for eighteen years. Jesus did not say that God had some purpose for the woman’s deformity. He did not say it was a blessing. He did not say it was a lesson from God. He said the attack came from the devil, and He healed the woman immediately to set her free.

It is really imperative for you to decide who the source of sickness is. Is God blessing you with sickness? Or is the devil cursing you with illness? Your answer will determine your response. You can never fight Satan effectively if you’re not sure whether he is your enemy. Instead, you will be passive and accepting of whatever outcome happens. If you think God is the source of your illness, then Satan is off the hook and totally out of the picture.

Think about this logically. If God made you sick and it is His will for you to be ill, then you should accept His will completely. Going to the doctor and getting treatment would be direct rebellion against God’s will for you. In fact, maybe you should want two cancers instead of one to get a double blessing or a double lesson.

That is, of course, ridiculous, but all the time we proclaim that our illness is God’s will, we never stop to think that, if that is true, we have no right to interfere with God’s plan. God does not want you to be sick. It is the enemy who comes to steal your health and money and time. It is the enemy who wants to kill you. And it is the enemy who wants to destroy your life and your joy.

How wonderful it is to proclaim that Jesus is our Risen Lord who has won joyous, abundant life for us!
