The Prayer Of Agreement - Matthew 18:19

The best prayers are to speak God’s own words back to Him

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father, which is in heaven (Matthew 18: 19).

There is enormous power in agreement. When we pray or speak in agreement with each other and when our words are in agreement with God’s Word, then we know that the Most High God in heaven works to fulfill them. He sends His angels to have charge over us and He moves to perform His Word because it can’t return to Him void. God assures us that “My covenant will I not break” (Psalm 89: 34).

But what happens if we agree in prayer about something that is contrary to what is written in the Word of God?

Here’s an example. Suppose a friend comes to visit and the two of us pray together, “God, if it is Your will, please heal me.” What is God’s response supposed to be? His Word clearly says that Jesus bore our sicknesses as a complete work two thousand years ago on the Cross. I sometimes imagine that Father God might be thinking something like this. “My Word says that I want My will to be done on earth is it is in heaven, and no one is sick here with Me. My Word says that by the stripes of My Son she was healed. So why are My precious daughters questioning what I have already given?”

Remember that Jesus answered, “I will” when the leper asked for healing, “if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean” (Matthew 8: 2). God cannot contradict Himself and He always keeps His Word. If He has already done something, already released a perpetual flow of grace and healing toward us, He can’t act as though He hasn’t done it. James teaches that it is the prayer of faith that saves, heals, and delivers the sick (James 5: 15).

A faith-filled prayer is one that is first and foremost in agreement with the Word of God. Be aware of prayers you pray with others. Make sure that you join in agreement with faith-filled, Word-based petitions to the Almighty.

The best prayers of all are to speak God’s own words back to Him because He is always faithful to perform them.
