Do Not Let Your Heart Be Trouble - John 14:1

Do Not Let Your Heart Be Trouble

John 14:1: The understood subject of this verse is “you.” It’s up to us to control our heart. It’s God’s power that makes that possible, but we have to make the choice and draw on God’s ability.

How do we do that? This verse goes on to say, “believe in God...” Faith is how we conquer our emotions. Jesus made these statements to His disciples the night before His crucifixion. That reveals the authority we have over our emotions. The Lord would have been unjust to command His disciples to do something they were powerless to do.

Therefore, we can control our emotions regardless of how things are going. The fact that Jesus mentions controlling our emotions first in this list of all the things we should do is also significant. Harnessing our emotions is the first thing to do in a crisis situation. Most battles are won or lost in the first few moments according to the way we allow our emotions to go.

When Jesus said those words to His disciples, they were about to face more trouble than most of us can imagine. He went on to teach how to have an untroubled heart even in the most troubling times. He said, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you...” (John 15: 4-5, 7-8).

When you remain in Jesus, He’s not just God on Sundays. He’s not just the One you think about when you get in trouble or have a hard test. He’s involved in your life 24/ 7.

Remain in Jesus by talking to Him throughout the day and remembering His Word to you. For if His Word remains in you, it will constantly teach you God’s ways and wisdom.

His promises will keep your heart from being troubled!
